We use it all the time, the guys that are crying about it just don't know how to be in a competitive market. If it was not for MFG.com we would not have any business right now. That has been the best invest I have ever made.

Ok Fred, are you screwing with people again?
Yep, I like to see the jack legs dancing around, they seem to know it all when it comes to working for nothing.

How have you been doing?

By the way, you can add Macraes Blue book to the list of slugs, $1500 for a year and 1 RFQ and that ain't no BS.

I got Scammed

Hello All,

I don't watch this board much, but when I do I spend some time trying to catch up....

When ever I see this topic I also have to voice that I tried it back in 2004, it was only about $3k then.

Well of course I soon found out after spending about 2 months bidding on work and talking to a couple different companies, this site was just a Price Sourcing site for companies that are actually legit.

I think they actually got about $1,500 from me before I cut them off. But if they are up to $5 to $6k now, I keep telling people that if I could generate that much revenue from the sites I maintain, just think how much Advertisement I could buy.

This site is a scam very bad for the industry, especially now when everything fell apart, companies are spending the little bit of money they have at sites like this.

The company I currently work at was within minutes of signing up with it. I mean the shop manager came on the floor and told us that they had a new source for work and was all excited and then I schooled him some and he had to run up in the office and make sure the finance guy didn't make the call yet.

Alot of people just look at the information on THEIR site. It does look pretty.

ps. I would totally be into helping set something up for a more level RFQ field like this one for a group of people. I do have a hosting account with some web space.

Check out some of my sites, they are primarily for promoting my book though...

I am no expert at websites, but I am learning as I go.

Hey there:
I'm not FROM firstindex, just a small shop like most of you guys.
Wanted to know if anyone out there has used that web site, and if it is worth the expense?
Or, is it a rip off like MFG ???
Thanks,
David

Rip off - I used them had about 50 quotes and was told by client check list on why i did not get the bid - i was to low and all work was in my region to - also was told by one of there buyers that it may take 2 years to get good leads in even though I was told that the phone would be ringing off the hook with paying clients - so i cut them off and they got their lawyers involved and THEY told that ALL sales reps lie and i should of had a lawyer talk to my sales rep- both mfg and first index looks great and they have some great people but i think the buyers of "our" parts were fishing - When work gets slow for me and that is an understatement first index always looks so nice but i have to pinch my fingure in my vise to wake up

hope this helps

A good rule of thumb is: if the sales pressure is high the product is extremely over valued and worthless (siding and window sales people for example). When sales people are very aggressive and demand a long term contract look out!

Mfg joke!!!

Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!
I, like the rest of us have been quoting and cannot land anything. I called them to speak to my account rep and after two month of trying to get her to respond. She tells me it is because my company page "looks like it was put together in poorly".
Unfortunately I am LOCKED in for a year and regret ever going to this company.

What can we do to make it better.

In this thread alone there is probably $100,000 of wasted hard earned money that was spent trying to grow and in some cases save our businesses.
Are the companies that are doing mfg's work and other work for pennies on the dollar really making any money? Are we just out dated and over priced. Are they all operating in large volume with buying power on materials, state of the art super efficient machinery and low labor cost?
It is really not just about sales and marketing, it is about competing.
Can we change this before it is too late?

Their BS has caught up to them because they are very hard up for new chumps. Here is a an email got from them a while back:

I have some really good news to share with you! We now have the Small Business Program (SBP) in place to help manufacturers like yourself get full access to the marketplace, but at a more affordable rate.

To qualify, you must be in North America and have less than 50 employees.

If you are interested in learning more about MFG.com’s SBP, please email or call me today. Space in MFG.com SBP is limited.

Best,

Jacob Wasson

My response is KMFA!!!!!!!!! and stop sending me emails every day.

Im glad my BS meter went off the redline on this company. 6K with no garuntee! It's like a porno-dating site for manufacturer's lol.

I know some good website coders. I think a US/canada ONLY based forum group would be ideal. I esp like idea of the refundable "core charge" on the request side of things to clear out the bullshitters.

Not a whole of differnce between this forum and MFG.com other than the cost. I think you might actually do better on this forum. The secret is to qualify the "mystery person" before waisting your time with the quote.
If the prints look like crap and their phone number does not come back as a business number plan on waisting your time.

If they are going to charge for their sevice, then they need to offer a money back guarantee. The fact that they are not open to this tells me they know that you probably won't see work off the site. To me it seems that the ideal setup would be to collect a % off the work awarded and not ask anything up front except some form of free shop directory listing.
