I'd guess that 850.00 is labor, I figured 2280.00 for material.

I am not bidding, some fool will think 304 is like 303 and bid accordingly. Check your material quote, way high, you have either calculated way too much material in weight or you don't know where to shop. El Mirage is SoCal, right?

Drylake, it appears they are sticking you on the cut charges. I have noticed this as a common practice lately. Just a few days ago I needed a measly 6 feet
of 7/8 round 6061. 4.2 pounds, since I was a regular customer they quoted $3.54 a pound even on a small piece, the catch a $15 cut charge! I just told them to give me the whole 12 foot bar, it was cheaper than buying 6 feet. Anyway I would suggest you buy a saw, they are going dirt cheap, just check Craigslist, you will get your money back real quick.

Sounds like their using tubing. 8 minutes a piece plus packing & shipping doesn't leave you much left over though.

Don't think so, don't think tubing is available in that size, and if it is 7-8 feet of it would be higher than solid stock. I got a quote for $1.95 a pound delivered
and that still put the material at $670 for this job. At less than $15, someone
either gave away material collecting dust, didn't charge out for tooling or seriously made a mistake. Just cutting slugs is going to eat a $50 saw blade. I don't even touch these kind of jobs, they go way too cheap.

I originally thought of laser or water jet,If I had a sheet of 3/4 laying around ,then just profile and face.

I know nothing about laser or water jet, will it hold a .003 tolerance and roundness on an od or id on a part like this? Maybe that is how someone did them so cheap.

Wow~!

I quoted with tubing and could not find any for under $23 a piece material.

How the hell do you guys make any money. $15 a flange.......geeze

I was thinking the same thing. If you crank the feeds and speeds up to make decent hourly money at that price I would think you would be eating some serious money in tooling. Wish I could be a fly on the wall when the winning bidder was running the parts and also wish to see what the finished product
looked like. I predict one of the parties doing business here will be disappointed,
I predict it will be the winning bidder.
